Goa Govt signs MOU with NIFT to promote fashion designing

Panaji, Aug 3 (UNI) Government of Goa has today entered into a memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) under the union Ministry of Textiles for setting up of a Fashion Designing Institute (FDI) in the tourist state.

The MOU was signed by director of technical education Dr J A Chandrasekhar and Mumbai-based NIFT director I B Perzada in the presence of the state industries minister Luizinho Faleiro and chief secretary J P Singh among others.

The FDI, which starts functioning from Shram Shakti Bhawan in the city, will impart 6-month short term courses in fashion designing and garment technology to promote self-employment.

Fashion designing as a core industry had a lot of potential for growth and employment generation and the MOU was expected to develop skilled manpower for the garment industry useful for the proposed Garment Park in Goa, according to the minister.
