Flood situation still grim in Kolhapur's Shirol 'tehsil'
Kolhapur, Aug 3 (UNI) The flood situation in the worst-affected Shirol 'tehsil' here continues to be grim with the level of flood water going slightly up today.
The district administration has been carrying out evacuation work in the affected villages to shift people to safer places and provide them other necessary help and relief.
District collector's office earlier in the day, said the water level at the Rajapur weir on Krishna river slightly increased and was recorded at 54.4 ft this morning, as against last evening's height of 54.3 ft. The water level at Kurundwad bridge on Panchangaga river remained unchanged 66.9 ft.
There has also been no improvement in the situation of the worst-hit 11 villages in Shirol 'tehsil', where four have been totally marooned, as their communication, road connectivity and other links still remain cut-off due to the heavy flow of Krishna river waters.
However, with the lessening of the rains in thr district, the water level at the Rajaram 'weir' on Panchaganga river near Kasaba-Bavada suburb was at 40.2 ft this morning, as against yesterday's level 42.2 feet. But, it is yet to come below the danger mark of 39 ft.
A total 278.3 mm rainfall was recorded in the district during the last 24 hours which ended at 0800 hrs this morning, with the highest 73 mm being reported in Radhanagri 'tehsil', sources said.
