Deep depression to cause heavy rains in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3 (UNI) Several parts of Orissa were lashed with heavy rains as the deep depression today crossed South Orissa between Puri and Gopalpur this morning and lay centred at 50 km north and north east of Gopalpur.

Met sources here said the system is likely to intensify further and move in the West North Westerly direction to cause heavy rains at isolated places over Orissa during the next 24 hours.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching over 60 kmph was likely to prevail along the off Orissa coast.

The authorities had already hoisted the cautionary signal number three at Gopalpur, Puri, Paradip and Chandbali and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea as it would be very rough during the next 48 hours UNI DP SJC RN1729
