Bus explosion kills 11 in southwest China

Beijing, Aug 3: An explosion on a bus has killed at least 11 and injured about 20 in a remote town in southwest China today, state television and a local medical worker said.

The blast happened in the Tianzhu county in the impoverished rural province of Guizhou, state television said.

''Six people were killed on the spot and another five died in hospital,'' it said.

It did not say what a possible cause might be or how many people were aboard the bus.

A medical worker who answered the telephone in the Tianzhu People's Hospital said four were confirmed dead at her hospital and 19 were being treated with minor injuries.

''We are very busy now. Many people are anxiously looking for their relatives here,'' She told sources.

Last August, a 42-year-old farmer with terminal lung cancer set off a home-made bomb on a bus in southeastern China's Fujian province, killing one and wounding 31.
