Bomb threat: film festival cancelled

Chennai, Aug 3 (UNI) Screening of films at the Children's Film Festival at Kalaivanar Arangam here was cancelled today following a bomb threat.

The festival, which began on August one, was attracting children from various schools and when a group of school children came today to watch the movies, they were made to wait outside the auditorium following the threat.

Police, with the help of sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squad, made a thorough search. But the threat proved to be a hoax. However, unwilling to take any risks, the authorities cancelled the screening of films today, police said.

Police said a teacher had received an anonymous call last evening that a bomb was planted inside the film festival venue and it would go off this morning. When she informed the police this morning, a search was conducted.

Police were on the look out for the culprit.
