BMC officials in dock over washed away Dahisar bridge
Mumbai, Aug 3 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today took exception to the washing away of a Dahisar bridge in 2005, exactly a year after it was constructed.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a Dahisar resident Ramesh Virgun, a division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and N H Patil, directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to submit within two weeks the names of officials involved in 'the construction of the said bridge for crossing the river.
The bench held that it was a matter of criminal negligence that a bridge constructed in July 2004 got washed away in 2005 deluge.
Even though the BMC's Technogen Consultants' report stated that the bridge collapsed due to the floods, the court held that a bridge passing over a river could not be built so weak.
The court directed the BMC to provide the names and details of the private contractors, architect, executive engineers as well as all the officials in the project and also submit a copy of the report prepared by the experts in the said time.
