Administration begins evacuation of people from low areas
Vijayawada, Aug 3 (UNI) Following heavy discharge of flood water from Nagarjunasagar dam to Prakasam barrage, the Krishna District Administration today sounded high alert and began to evacuate people living in low lying areas facing serious threat of inundation.
Urban Mandal Revenue Officer Natraj told UNI that about three lakh cusecs of water will reach the barrage by tomorrow morning which would be let into sea.
A coordination meeting was held for the purpose in which Muncipal Commissioner Natrajan Gulzar and District Joint Collector S Suresh Kumar participated and discussed about the evacuation of people from low lying areas.
Mr Natraj said the threat could be felt more in the areas of Padmavathi Ghat, Ramalingeswar Nagar and Krishna Lanka which were on the banks of river Krishna.
He said the municipal, revenue, police and irrigation officials were assigned to shift the people to safer places.
