8,700 cusecs of surplus water let into sea

Vijayawada, Aug 3 (UNI) Following rains in catchment areas, irrigation officials today discharged 8,700 cusecs of surplus water into sea from the Prakasam barrage here.

An irrigation official told UNI that about 93,957 cusecs of water was released from the Nagarjunasagar dam into to the Prakasam barrage till this morning.

He said 15,855 cusecs of water was released into canals.

Twelve of the 70 crest gates were lifted to let the surplus water out, he added.
