10 die in road accident in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 3 (UNI) Ten people, including four women, were killed and three others injured when a coal-laden truck rammed into two local taxis at Mawblei area, about 5 kms from here today.

East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police AR Mawthoh told UNI that the accident occurred around 1100 hours when the driver of the truck lost control and crashed into the two cabbies carrying passengers.

Those killed in the accident include the drivers of the two local taxis, police said.

The truck was proceeding towards Guwahati, police said, adding that the truck driver fled from the scene.

Meanwhile, surgeon superintendent of Shillong Civil hospital Dr (Mrs) S M Garod said the three injured persons were in a critical condition and had been admitted to a local hospital.

Madanrynting police have registered a case in this connection and investigations were on.
