Yonex signs sponsorship deal with UP Badminton Assn
Lucknow, Aug 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA), for the first time, has managed a sponsorship deal with sports equipment major Yonex.
The company would sponsor eight junior players, who represent the state at national level.
UPBA secretary Vijay Sinha told newspersons here that under the deal, Yonex would sponsor eight junior players-- four boys and four girls, who would go to the national level. The sports kits and playing equipment would be provided to these players as per the deal.
Yonex would also supply international standard shuttlecocks to UPBA at subsidised rates for three years.
The junior players would be selected on the basis of their performance in three major tournaments - first sub-junior state tournament taking place here from tommorrow, followed by another junior tournament at Azamagarh from August 16 and later state-level junior badminton tournament in the first week of September.
Dr Sinha said a total of 160 players would participate in the sub-junior tournament starting tomorrow. The singles and doubles event under-16 and under-13 would take place in the tournament going to take place in multi-purpose hall of PAC here.
The 21-point game system already adopted by Badminton Asociation of India (BAI) and International Badminton Fedration (IBF) would also be introduced in the tourney for the first time, he informed.
