Tamil Nadu has the highest number of women in police

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu has the highest number of women in the police with 10,704 women personnel in the force followed by Maharshtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi and Punjab.

There are 39,954 women in the police forces as on January one, 2005, Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Maharshtra has 3,589, Karnataka 2,855, Kerala 2,768, Delhi2,265 and Punjab 2,210 women in the police force.

The government has impressed upon all states, union territories and central forces to enhance women's representation to 10 per cent of the forces' strength within a given time-frame, he added.
