TADA court refuses Salem's custody to Delhi police

Mumbai, Aug 2 (UNI) The TADA court here today refused the custody of extradited gangster and 1993 Mumbai serial blasts' accused Abu Salem to Delhi police, for a probe in an extortion case.

In his order, designated TADA Judge P D Kode, while restraining the Delhi police from taking custody of the don, said the judicial proceedings against Salem are yet to begin in his court.

He further said Salem has also challenged the separation of his trial in the High Court and besides, he is also facing probe in various other matters in Mumbai. Therefore, at this juncture, his custody to Delhi police is not possible.

While directing the Delhi police to return, the judge also said the court will inform them accordingly, as to when Salem's custody can be handed over to them.

Earlier, the Tees Hazari court at Delhi had issued a production warrant against Salem to enable police from the national capital to probe him in an extortion case.
