Survey to locate ancient manuscripts in haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 2 (UNI) The National Mission for Manuscripts has decided to conduct a statewide survey in Haryana to locate ancient manuscripts.

The survey would be conducted in every village, town and district of the state from September 4 to 8 with an aim to preserve the rich cultural heritage, an official spokesman said.

He said the manuscripts from institutions and private collections such as temples, mutts, madrasas and ancestral family collections would be located and documented in 14 districts of the state during the survey.

Coordinators at the district level had been appointed for the smooth conduct of survey to locate manuscripts throughout the state, he said.

Besides, historians, lecturers, school teachers, researchers and students would be involved in the survey and they would be paid suitable honorarium for assisting the government in locating the rich treasure of ancient manuscripts.

He said the people of the state having interest in this field would also be involved to contribute their might in this exercise aimed at saving the most valuable aspect of cultural heritage of Haryana and the country.

''It is an attempt to keep our cultural heritage alive and transmit it to the younger generations so that they can imbibe the virtuous values of Indian culture,'' he added.
