Security beefed up in North Bengal before Independence Day
Siliguri, Aug 2 (UNI) With the possibility of KLO attacks looming large on the eve of the Independence Day, all the police stations and Border Security Force (BSF) were put on high alert in North Bengal, particularly along the Indo-Bangla border.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), North Bengal, Kishanlal Meena told UNI that police had information that the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) militants would try to enter North Bengal before the Independence day celebration.
Mr Meena said, '' We don't want to take any chance. All the police stations have been alerted to thwart any attempt by the militants to disrupt Independence Day celebrations. '' He said more forces would be deployed if needed.
Inspector General of BSF, North Bengal headquarters, Sriram Tewari told UNI that 25 KLO and as many ULFA militants were taking special training in Chittagong of Bangladesh.
He said KLO was facing a financial problem as their training would complete on August 10 and they would try to enter North Bengal to collect money.
He cautioned that there was possibility of kidnapping businessman but the BSF was ready to thwart all the plans of the militants.
Mr Tewari said KLO would try to enter through Malda border, adding after getting the information the BSF had sent a report to both Union and state government.
