Narmada river water reach danger mark

Bhopal, Aug 2 (UNI) The water level of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river reached the danger mark of 119 metre today despite cessation of heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh.

Several villages in Jhabua district came under submergence due to the backwater of the Sardar Sarovar dam and residents of the affected villages had been evacuated.

Meanwhile, many rivers and rivulets in the state were flowing to full capacity.

Jhabua Collector Rajkumar Pathak said the district administration had geared up to meet any situation. The district had received 681.6 mm rainfall so far although normal rainfall from June 1 to September 30 was 773.4 mm Meanwhile, heavy rains abated after a low-pressure area built over the state moved to Rajasthan.

However, another system, built over the Bay of Bengal, was advancing towards the state.

Heavy rains at isolated places in Rewa, Sagar and Jabalpur divisions in next 48 hours besides the state capital, was forecasted.

Residents experienced scorching sun today after the wet spell in the state capital lasted a couple of days. Barring light rainfall, a dry weather was witnessed during the past two days.

Earlier, MeT department had predicted rains in eastern MP, including Bhopal and Hoshangabad, courtesy a low-pressure area over northeastern part of the state.

However, the system moved towards northwest bringing showers over western MP.
