Krishna reservoirs in AP filling up fast

Hyderabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Raising hopes of good khariff crop in the Krishna delta region, major reservoirs across the river Krishna in Andhra Pradesh were filling up fast thanks to heavy discharges from the upper riparian states of Karnataka and Maharashtra today.

As Almatti and Narayanpur in Karnataka had inflows of over 2.55 lakh cusecs and 2.54 lakh cusecs respectively in the wake of floods in the upper reaches, the outflows were stepped up from these reservoirs to 2.69 lakh cusecs and 2.55 lakh cusecs, official sources said, adding that following this, the combined storage of the reserviors across river in Andhra Pradesh went up to more than 674 TMC ft.

With Srisailam, the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, short of the full level of 885 ft only by five ft, the authorities increased the discharge significantly for the first time this season to 1.09 lakh cusecs downstream. Over 10,500 cusecs was let out through the Pothireddipadu Head Regulator for the Rayalaseema region.

Bringing down the level to 1035.81 ft in Jurala, the entry point of the river in Andhra Pradesh, the water release was increased to a huge three lakh cusecs.

The level in Nagarjunasagar rose to 563.20 ft against full level of 590 ft. The discharge was increased to 43,623 cusecs.

Maintaining the level at 12 ft in the Prakasam Barrage, the authorities released 7236 cusecs into the Eastern Main Canal, 4513 cusecs into Western Main Canal and 200 cusecs into the Guntur Channel.

In Thungabadra, the storage rose to 103.91 TMC with an inflow of 31,963 cusecs. The discharge was increased to 36,501 cusecs.
