IRNSS to take seven years for realisation
New Delhi, Aug 2: The Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) is expected to be realised in seven years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
In a written reply, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said the government had approved the establishment of IRNSS in May 2006 with a constellation of seven satellites to provide navigation and timing services over the Indian sub-continent at an outlay of Rs 1420 crore.
He said the satellites are proposed to be launched using Indian launch vehicles.
Mr Chavan said the management structure for the project had been identified. An ISRO-industry meet had been conducted to appraise the industry of the opportunities for participation in IRNSS. Actions had been initiated for procurement of critical components and systems.
