HCL, Melbourne Varsity sign MoU on grid computing
New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) HCL Technologies (HCL) today announced it has tied up with Grid Computing and Distributed Systems (GRIDS) laboratory at the University of Melbourne.
As per the agreement, the company and GRIDS will jointly conduct research in the field of grid computing and undertake multilateral projects for academia and industries.
''This tie-up allows us to have access to world class research capabilities to serve our expanding client base with customised offerings in grid computing,'' HCL Senior Corporate Vice President Gunaseelan Narayanan said.
Grid computing is an enabling technology that allows integration of heterogeneous IT resources such as CPUs and data storage units, and operateS resources as a single virtual computer.
It harnesses idle computing capacity dispersed across an enterprise without resorting to new computer hardware, thereby providing tremendous cost-benefits.
GRID laboratory had developed Gridbus technology, which is being used globally for reading brainwaves and early detection of breast cancer, searching for cosmic particles and developing finance portfolio analysis.
