New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to remove unauthorised shops outside the Central government-owned Safdarjung Hospital and file a status report in two weeks.

A division bench comprising Justice Mukundakam Sharma and Justice J M Malik said in terms of the court direction the NDMC should remove the illegal shops from the pavements outside of the Hospital.

Complying to the Court's direction of May 29, 2006, Safdarjung Hospital today filed a status report after initiating action for improvement in various departments.

The CPWD had repaired leakage in the buildings and a new coat of paint had been applied, said the status report.

Various departments of the government had failed in disposing of their responsibilities in running the 1500-beded hospital where more than 6000 patients go for treatment everyday.

The 47-acre sprawlling campus was not being hygienically maintained by the CPWD.

There were no sufficient doctors, nurses and para-medical staff to attend to the patients in the central government hospital.

Counsel Sidharth Mirdul argued that various departments were taking steps to improve the condition in the hospital.
