DIAL takes full control of IGI airport
New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) At the stroke of midnight, the Delhi International Airport Private Limted (DIAL) took full control of operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport with the ending of three-month transition period which began on May 3.
A significant step in public-private partnership, this heralds the entry of a new era in airport infrastructure in India. As part of the transition process during the first month, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was performing all the duties observed by the joint venture company.
During the second month, the JVC was performing the function observed by AAI. And finally during month three, the JVC was operating independently with need-based support from AAI.
The DIAL comprises of GMR, AAI, Fraport, Malaysia Airport and IDF.
The government has decided to privatise Delhi and Mumbai airports -- the country's busiest -- in an effort to upgrade them to world-class standards.
While the DIAL holds 76 per cent stake in the JVC's equity base, the AAI and other government agencies retain the rest.
