Bailable warrant issued against Rahul Bajaj recalled
Nagpur, Aug 2 (UNI) A civil court here today recalled the bailable warrant issued yesterday, against Rajya Sabha member and Bajaj Auto chief Rahul Bajaj, in connection with a business case of company's 'Karodpati Hangama' scheme on two-wheelers.
The warrant was issued during the hearing of a complaint lodged by Deorao Satpute in 2000.
The complaint stated that Bajaj Auto had introduced a scheme of 'Karodpati Hangama', promising 100 prizes including a bumper jackpot of Rs one crore for purchasing any of the company's two-wheelers between December 1, 1999 and December 31, 1999.
Mr Satpute bought a scooter on December 28 but he was surprised to see a news item in first week of January that a Ludhiana resident Satbir Singh Bedi was declared the winner on December 6, 1999 itself and received the jackpot amount of Rs one crore, thus cheating the customers.
The then Magistrate S M Mendjoge had ordered an inquiry into the case u/s 420 of the IPC and Bombay Lotteries Act, 1958.
Mr Bajaj and others had challenged the magistrate's order, which was quashed by the Nagpur Session court in March 2006.
When the case came up for hearing yesterday, Magistrate R S Bhakre had issued a bailable warrant of Rs 5,000 each against Mr Bajaj and distributors - Narmada Automobiles. However today he recalled the same, saying the legal counsel for complainant had not not mentioned that the proceedings against Mr Bajaj was already quashed earlier.
