Asom govt writes off outstanding dues for deceased employees

Guwahati, Aug 2 (UNI) The Asom government today announced the waiver of outstanding government dues of employees, who died before retirement.

A release informed here that if the total claim of a family of a deceased government servant on account of Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity, General Provident Fund and Group Insurance together was Rs two lakh or less, no adjustment would be made against outstanding government loans and advances. Such outstanding dues would be written off by the Finance (Audit&Fund) Department.

This waiver was applicable on outstanding government loans and advances, including house building advance, motor car and cycle and bi-cycle advance, computer advance, medical advance, festival advance in case of death of a government servant while in service, including on leave or on suspension, the release said.

If, however, the total claim of the family exceded Rs two lakh, the amount beyond it but to the extent of the admissible amount of Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity, shall be adjusted against the outstanding government dues, the release added.

The amount payable to the family on account of general Provident Fund and Group Insurance, which could not be adjusted against outstanding government dues payable by the deceased, shall, however, be left untouched even if, such dues together with Death-Cum-Retirement Gratuity, exceded Rs two lakh and outstanding dues remained unrecovered.
