Arunachal finally gets Centre's attention: Apang
Itanagar, Aug 2 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh could finally arrive at the national scene with the conversion of Rajiv Gandhi University into a central varsity for which a bill was introduced in Rajya Sabha on Monday last and appointment of Mukut Mithi as Lt. Governor of Pondicherry.
This was stated by state Chief Minister Gegong Apang while addressing a felicitation function in the honour of Mr Mithi at Banquet Hall last night.
''The appointment of the first Arunachalee to the gubernatorial post is not only a recognition of the maturity attained by our state but a tribute to the peace loving people of the state'', the chief minister commented adding, Pondicherry, a cultural confluence of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhara Pradesh and an important tourist hub, would benefit from Mithi's administrative acumen and wide experience.
"I am sure Mithi will play the role of a cultural ambassador between the two states and help boost the tourist inflow to Arunachal," Mr Apang added.
The chief minister also appreciated Dr. Manmohan Singh for appointing Mithi to the august office and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for carrying forward the traditional love of the Nehru-Gandhi family for the people of Arunachal.
''Any major decision that benefits the state or its people should be credited to her. My own experience is that every time I take up an issue of public interest to her, sh wholeheartedly support it'', the chief minister emphatically said.
