Ahmedabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Security personnel today rescued 130 children stranded in a school in a village in Kheda district, even as monsoon fury abated across Gujarat since morning.

The children, alongwith 20 staff members, had been trapped in the school building for the past four days, although food and other requirements were made available to them. As the flow of water had reduced, the children could be easily carried on the shoulders of the CRPF men deployed.

They were then taken to another school in Limbasi where they will be medically examined, Collector R R Varsani told UNI.

Meanwhile, rains have subsided in the state, although a high alert has been sounded for 65 dams while for another 25, a warning has been issued. The water level in Narmada dam has reached 119.6 metres, while its optimum is at 121.92 metres.

Though rains subsided in Central Gujarat, Dabhoi in Vadodara had 95 mm of rain and Banaskantha in North Gujarat recieved heavy rains overnight. Its tehsils, Wav and Tharath recieved 267 mm and 133 mm of rain respectively. In Southern Gujarat, though rains declined in intensity, Surat's Umarpada tehsil received 130 mm rain overnight.

Rail and road traffic are limping back to normalcy. Although most trains are more or less running as per schedule, traffic jams have been reported from several places. Many private buses plying on rural routes that had been cancelled for three days, may however resume service from today.

Kutch, known for its dry weather too, has recieved 2 to 3 inches of rain across several places including Gandhidham, Mundra and Mandvi.
