Three co are in fray of Rs 4000 cr MTHL project:Anil Deshmukh

Mumbai, Aug 1 (UNI) Three companies having foreign collaboration are in the fray to get the contract of constructing the world's second longest overbridge of 22 km on the sea with a cost of Rs 4000 crore.

The contract for the overbidge, which will link Sewri and Nhava Sehva, will be awarded by December 15.

''The work is expected to start by next year and is planned to be completed in four years from the date on which the construction begins. This is the biggest project not only for Maharashtra but for the country as a whole,'' PWD Minister Anil Deshmukh said while talking to reporters here today.

Maharashtra government has appointed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation as entrepreneur to implement this Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project on Built-Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, he added.

The three prequalified bidders are: 1) M/s Infrastructure lease and financial services&John laing construction co (UK), 2) Larsen&Toubro ltd, Gammon India ltd&Sistema Ltd (Russia) and 3) M/s Indian Farmers Fertilizers Corporation Ltd (IFFCO ), M/s skanska cementation&Italian Thai development Co &M/s MAEDA (Japan).

Mr Deshmukh said all the three bidders are in consortium and their foreign partners have the experience of constructing an overbridge in sea of over Rs 1000 crore in UK, Russia and Hong Kong respectively.

The pre-qualified bidders were issued 'request for proposal' document on July 28, he said, adding, the bids will be received within three months and the work will be awarded by December 15.

He informed that the longest sea overbridge, 36 km, is Hanzhou near Shanghai.
