Speaker calls for cementing Indo-Turkey friendship ties

New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said India and Turkey have traditional ties which should be further cemented.

Mr Chatterjee said this when ambassador of Turkey Halli Akinci called on him in the Lok Sabha. He said that more bilateral contacts, exchange of visits of Parliamentarians between the two countries would further cement the bilateral relationship.

He hoped that the contacts between the Indo-Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Groups will be further increased.

Mr Akinci highlighted the commonalities between the two countries.

''As far as the two democracies are concerned, the secular character is so unique. Both the countries take pride in preserving this secular character and contributing to the welfare of the people,'' he pointed out.
