Situation improves as rains subside in Guj; toll reaches 52
Gandhinagar, Aug 1 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today conducted an aerial survey of Anand, Kheda and Vadodara districts of Central Gujarat, to review the situation in worst rain-affected areas of the State, where 52 people have so far lost their lives.
Though the situation has improved following the recession in downpour in the last 24 hours, the State Government has put on alert administration of all districts, Gujarat State Disaster Management Association and other governmental agencies, as the weather bureau has forecast heavy-to-very heavy rains in major parts of Gujarat in the next 48 hours.
After conducting the survey in an Indian Air Force helicopter, Mr Modi instructed authorities to ensure supply of food, drinking water and other civic facilities for the people residing in rain-affected areas, particularly for those who have been trapped in low-lying localities of towns and villages.
The Chief Minister also lauded the efforts of Government agencies and said they have averted several major tragedies in difficult times like these.
