Send back Lankan police personnel: Ramadoss
Chennai, Aug 1 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today demanded the immediate sending back of 45 Sri Lankan police personnel, being provided training at the Central Reserve Police Force Training College in Coimbatore.
Expressing surprise over the arrival of the police personnel to Tamil Nadu, Dr Ramadoss, in a statement here, said the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, who is heading the Training college confirmed that the police personnel were trained in the college, much to the shock of Tamils here.
He said Tamils, not only in the state, but all over the world, strongly believed that the Sri Lankan forces should not be offered any kind of assistance or training as they would be used to crush the Tamils in the island.
Dr Ramadoss, whose party is a key constituent in the Congress led UPA government at the Centre, said the Centre, having declared that it would not provide any kind of military assistance to the island, has offered the training facility. He urged the Centre to immediately stop the training facility and send the Sri Lankan police personnel back.
He said his party MPs would take up the matter with the Union Home Minister and ensure that the island police personnel were sent back home.
After the Sri Lankan government successfuly thwarted the Norwagian peace efforts, a war of clouds was hovering over the island, he said adding that after pounding the Tamil areas, the Sri Lankan army had launched land attacks.
