S Easterlies bring relief from humidity, mercury drops to 33.7 deg C
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Cool South Easterly winds today brought some relief to the people of Delhi from the humid conditions of yesterday, bringing down the mercury, even as weathermen forecast more rains in the coming days.
The high speed South Easterlies led to a drop in mercury to 33.7 degree Celsius, from 36.2 degree Celsius yesterday.
The high speed winds followed a sudden burst of heavy rains, last night.
Accompanied by thundershowers, the sudden burst of heavy showers came following a brief lull in rainfall activity after last Wednesday's heavy showers.
The rain and thundershowers last night led to coolness in the air, bringing down the mercury level by several degrees.
Weather office said about 10 mm of rainfall was recorded last night.
Weathermen say the sudden turnaround in weather since last evening, after a dry spell in the last few days, was largely due to the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation originating from northwest Bay of Bengal off north Orissa-West Bengal coasts.
The system is likely to concentrate into a depression during the next one or two days and move in a west-northwesterly direction.
Under its influence, rainfall activity in Orissa and Chhattisgarh and also parts of North West India, including Delhi, is likely to increase in the next couple of days, the weather office said.
The meteorological department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thundershowers at a few places in the capital during the next 24 hours.
