Record number of people cross over LoC
Jammu, Aug 1 (UNI) A record number of civilians from both the sides of the Line of Control (LoC) crossed over via Poonch-Rawalakote route, which opened on June 20 this year for divided families of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), at Chakan-da-Bagh.
Official sources said a highest number of 222 civilians crossed over the LoC yesterday at Chakan-da-Bagh point of Poonch Rawalakot through the fortnightly bus service.
One hundred and six civilians crossed over to this side from PoK and 116 civilians crossed over to PoK from here, official sources said adding that out of 106 civilians from PoK, 76 were new faces while 30 returned to their houses here after spending sometime with their divided families and friends in PoK.
Out of 116 civilians, who went to the other side of the LoC, 62 were new faces while 54 belonged to PoK who returned to their houses after spending here a fortnight or a month.
Deputy commissioner, Poonch, Mohammad Ramzan Thakur attributed the highest number of civilians crossing today to closure of Tatta Pani point for the last one month.
