Neo-natology Forum launches battle against bottle feeding

Bangalore, Aug 1 (UNI) The Karnataka chapter of the National Neo-natology Forum, will launch an aggressive campaign against bottle feeding of new-borns and to create awareness about the advantages of breast-feeding, its President M R Hariram informed today.

Talking to newspersons here, he lamented that despite educating mothers about the ill-effects of bottle feeding new-borns, many still continue to do so, especially in urban areas.

Strongly advocating breast-feeding, he said the inherent dangers of bottle-feeding, using cow's milk or powder milk, were malnutrition, repeated infections and deficiency of important immune components which were present in the mother's milk. Besides bottle feeding was one of the major reasons for gastroenteritis in children, he added.

Dr Hariram said breast-feeding would also help in reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with bottle feeding.
