NABARD sanctions Rs 137.57 crore to Kerala for RIP

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (UNI) The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 137.57 crore to Kerala for implementing various Rural Infrastructure Projects (RIP) in the state.

The fund released from NABARD's Rural Infrastructure Development Fund XII would be for implementing various rural road projects, bridges soil and water conservation projects in all the districts in the state, its Chief General Manager B S Shekhawat said in a release here today.

The road and bridge projects would result in improved connectivity to 284 villages and 212 market centres. The funds would also be used for improving 68 rural road projects with a total length of 435.5 km and in 25 rural bridge projects. The works include construction of new bridges, replacement of existing and damaged rural bridges with total bridge length of 2,404.4m, the release said.

With this the cumulative sanction of assistance to the state by the NABARD under RIDF 1 to X11 had gone up to Rs 1,701 crore involving 2,659 effective projects.

The state government had utilised Rs 916 crore so far, the release added.
