Mumbai, Aug 1 (UNI) Most of the Indian companies can go global after listing themselves with Nasdaq, the president of Nasdaq, Bob Greifeld, said here today.

Addressing a Press conference he said, ''India is a very important country for us as a growing economy and in terms of capital market structure''. It was evident from the fact that joined together, Sify and Rediff.com India Ltd were having their share volumes at Nasdaq more than any other company listed there, he said. More than 500 Indian companies can become global entities by listing their names at Nasdaq, he hoped.

The seven Indian companies that have already been listed at Nasdaq include Covansys, Syntel Inc, Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, Infosys Technologies Ltd, Sify Ltd, Rediff.com India Ltd and Kanbay International Inc. The total market cap of all these Indian companies at Nasdaq is USD 32,494,979,030. Among these seven Indian companies, Infosys was the only Indian company which has been listed at Bombay Stock Exchange too. From being a USD 1.2 billion in 2001 to have crossed the mark of USD 2 billion, Nasdaq has come a long way within a short span of six years.

The head of Nasdaq International, Charlotte Crosswell who is based at London, said on the occasion that ''If you are looking at going overseas then you must get your company's name listed at Nasdaq''. She added that our mission is to be the premier global equities market.

Its managing director (Asia Pacific), Ghanshyam Dass who is based at Bangalore, was also present on the occasion.
