Military's ammunition dump catches fire in SL

Colombo, Aug 1: An ammunition dump of the special elite police force of the Sri Lankan armed forces in a Southern town caught fire late last night, causing a few explosion in the area, military sources here today said.

''There was a fire in the armoury of the Special Task Force (STF) of the police last night at Katukurunda in Kalutara. Some the ammunitions brought there for the STF training purpose caught fire and exploded,'' a top military source in Colombo told UNI over the phone.

He said that the situation had been brought under control within hours with the help of the Fire Brigade, adding that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

''Although we firmly believe that the fire was due to the electrical short circuit, we have launched an investigation into it,'' the official added.
