Maoists ransack APEDC office

Visakhapatnam, Aug 1: About 20 Maoists ransacked the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation Office (APEDC) and took away paddy bags from Girijan Corporation Warehouse at R V Nagar in G K Veedhi mandal in the district last night, reports today said.

While the ultras damaged furnitures, typewriters and destroyed records in APEDC ofice after breaking the doors, they took away six bags of paddy from the warehouse, according to the reports.

The Narsipatnam officer on special duty Vineet Brijlal told UNI that both incidents happened in the presence of more than 100 people. The Maoists put up banners conveying their anger over the the recent encounter in Nallamala forests, in which eight Maoists were killed in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Police have stepped up vigil in the mandals of the district in view of the possibility of more such attacks by the naxals on government properties.
