Japanese companies to invest in SEZs in India

Kolkata, Aug 1 (UNI) Japanese companies will invest in SEZs in India in sectors like manufacturing, leather, jewellery, food processing etc.

Speaking at a seminar on 'Strengthening Indo-Japan Business Relations' here today, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata Yoshikazu Takeuchi said, ''Manikanchan, the Special Economic Zone in West Bengal, has huge potential to attract investments from Japan as there are demands of Indian jewellery in our country.'' Japanese companies have already invested in SEZs in Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said.

Talking about export potential of various items from the state to Japan, Mr Takeuchi said shrimps, mangoes, roses, tuna fish and vegetables could be exported.

Currently under Japan-India Global Partnership programme India exports agri-products, semi-conductors, manufacturing equipment.

The bilateral trade between the countries rose from US $ 4 billion to US $ 10 billion currently.
