Israel eyes 6-7 km sweep into S.Lebanon-source
JERUSALEM, Aug 1 (Reuters) Israel's security cabinet approved a military ground sweep of 6-7 km into southern Lebanon but not the taking of all territory further north to the Litani River, a political source said today.
''There is no intention of taking all of the territory up to the Litani,'' said the source, referring to a strategic boundary some 20 km (13 miles) north of the border.
Nevertheless, Israel aims to push Hizbollah guerrillas as far as the river, political sources have said. The security cabinet gave a green light to expanded ground operations early today.
