Interpol notices against LeT ultras likely
Hyderabad, Aug 1 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) is now gearing up to get notices from International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to be issued to terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and others in the state.
It may be recalled that the CID team led by Eluru Range Deputy-Inspector General of Police (DIG) CV Anand, had successfully brought Krushi Bank Chairman K Venkateswar Rao, accused in Rs 36.69 crore scam from Bangkok, where he had been hiding since five years.
Though Thailand has no extradition treaty with India, with systematic efforts by the CID, including addressing the CBI-INTERPOL Division and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for translating the Investigation Case Diary into Thai Language and continuous efforts of liaision with the concerned Officers of CBI and MEA, an INTERPOL Red Corner Notice was issued on March 19, 2002, for detention/arrest and extradition of Rao.
The CID has decided to get Interpol notices issued on the wanted terrorists belonging to LeT and other terrorist groups from the state. The CID is obtaining information from the Hyderabad Police in this regard, according to police.
The police sources said if the terrorists are hiding in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain or Oman, they can be extradited. But it is impossible to bring them here if they are in Pakistan or Bangladesh as we do not have extradition treaty with those country.
The city police have already unearthed activities of various terrorist linked organisations here. Some terrorists have already been arrested and convicted, while majority of them are hiding in other countries.
