HP Police seeks custody of accused in Punjab medical paper leak

Shimla, Aug 1 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Police is seeking the custody of the accused in the Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET) since they are also responsible for the leaking of the HP Common Pre-Medical Test (HPCPMT), a senior state police official today said.

''We are seeking the custody of one of the main accused responsible for leaking the PMET examination of the Baba Fardi University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) since the same group was responsible for leaking the HPCPMT paper,'' he said, on condition of anonymity.

He said the Himachal Pradesh police would soon get a production warrant from the court to bring one of the accused to the state to investigate the matter threadbare.

The accused were in the state days before the Pre-Medical Test to sell the papers, which were allegedly bought by a few candidates who finally managed to qualify the test, he said.

Observing that it was difficult to say as to where the paper was leaked at this point of time, he said probably it was leaked from the printing press where the papers were printed.

He said two people employed by the Lucknow printing press were absconding after the PMET and HPCPMT paper leak, adding that the Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Police were searching for them.

The inquiry committee set up by the HP High Court to investigate irregularities in the CPMT case found out that not only were the same questions of the successful candidates wrong but they had opted for the same option in the multiple choice questions, he said.

He said based on this and the rough work done by them during the CMPT examination, the committee held a written test of a few candidates who failed to answer a single question rightly.

The official, however, ruled out the possibility of paper being leaked from the HP University but agreed that at least the University's Controller of Examinations (CoE) should not be involved in conducting the re-examination of the CPMT on August 20.
