Hike in four wheeler sales in July ranges between 3.7%-37%

New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Major car makers today reported increase in their July sales which varied from 3.7 per cent for market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd, to 37 per cent for General Motors.

Maruti sold 46,408 vehicles in July, an increase of 3.7 per cent from 44,756 units sold in the same month last year.

The company sold 44,653 units in the domestic market, up 10 per cent from 40,553 units a year earlier, while its exports fell 58 per cent to 1,755 units in July, from 4,203 units last year.

General Motors India today reported a 37 per cent growth in its July sales at 2,450 units, a majority of which came from the Chevrolet Tavera model at 1,302 units.

The other two models Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Optra contributed 839 units and 309 units respectively, during the month.

The Chevrolet brand has also recorded a year-on-year growth of 58 per cent.

Ford India today clocked a growth of 120 per cent in its sales at 3019 cars for the month, as against 1374 cars in the same month last year.

The company also registered a 94 per cent increase in sales during the period of January-July 2006 at 26775 cars as compared to 13810 cars that were sold in the same period last year.

Last month, the motor company launched the Fiesta Diesel Exi, priced at ex-showroom price of Rs 6.85 lakhs to strengthen market leadership in the diesel segment.

Within a month of its launch, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI)'s 'Civic' has already sold 2,441 units in India.

Of the total figure, 475 units were dispatched to the dealers by June-end, to begin sales immediately after the launch on July 4.

Boosted by the sales of Civic, HSCI registered a growth of 57 per cent in July 2006, against the same period last year.

The company sold a total of 5,936 cars in July this year compared to 3,764 cars sold in July 2005.

The cumulative sales of the company during April-July 2006, reported a significant jump of 20.69 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year.

In terms of volume, the company achieved cumulative sales of 17,713 units during the period, as compared to 14,673 units sold during April-July 2005.

In July this year, the City sold 3199 units, Civic - 1966 units, Accord - 193 units and the CRV - 103 units.

Skoda Auto India, a fully owned subsidiary of SkodaAuto Czech Republic registered a 98.2 per cent increase in its July sales at 999 units, as against 504 units sold in July last year.
