Hero Honda July sales up 2.3%, Bajaj up 49%, TVS up 28%

New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) The country's leading two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda today reported a mere 2.3 per cent hike in its July sales at 2,35,314 units, while close competitor Bajaj Auto posted a 49 per cent increase in motorcycle sales at 171,115 units, followed by TVS Motor Co sold 68,335 units this month, up by 28 per cent.

Hero Honda sales in July last year were 2,30,050, while Bajaj Auto sold 115,216 units in the same period. TVS Motor Co's sales in July 2005 were 53,215 units.

Hero Honda's exports during last month climbed 53.26 per cent to 10,575 units from 6,900 units during July 2005.

During the period April-July 2006, the company's sales clocked a growth of 16.38 per cent crossing the one million mark at 10,68,006 units as compared to 9,17,617 units sold in the corresponding period last year.

Hero Honda's first scooter venture-Pleasure-sold 6,224 units in July 2006, taking the total tally during the current financial year to 28,324 units.

The total sale of Bajaj Auto two-wheelers stood at 173,158 units in July 2006 as compared to 126,821 units in July 2005, an increase of 37 per cent.

The three-wheelers registered a growth of 18 per cent in its July sales at 26,663 vehicles from 22,585 vehicles.

Bajaj's total sales of two and three-wheelers went up 34 per cent at 199,821 units as against 149,406 units in July last year.

The company's exports saw a rise of 189 per cent in July 2006 with 42,476 units from 14,698 units in July 2005.

Bajaj's sales for the period April-July 2006 climbed 37 per cent at 739,302 units against 537,759 units in Q1 FY06.

The total sales of two and three-wheelers for the period stood at 849,317 units as compared to 654,378 units, posting a growth of 30 per cent. The exports during Q1 FY07 also rose by 116 per cent at 140,739 units from 65,191 units in Q1 FY06.

The country's third-largest motorcycle maker TVS Motor Co's motorcycle sales in July 2005 stood at 53,215 units with its total two-wheeler sales going up 20 per cent in July 2006 at 1,21,462 units compared to 1,01,359 units during July 2005.

The company attributed the growth in motorcycle sales to the growing popularity of its 'Apache' and 'TVS StaR' brands across all markets, a statement said here.

TVS Scooty sales clocked 25,356 units in July 2006 as against 24,244 units in July 2005. During the month, the company exported 10,382 units, the highest ever export sales in a single month, reflecting a growth of 15 per cent over the same period last year.
