Heavy rains lash Shimla and other adjoining areas

Shimla, Aug 1 (UNI) Heavy rains lashed Shimla and other adjoining areas this afternoon after two days of respite from the wet conditions during which almost all mid and lower hills received no rainfall, the met office said.

The rains followed high humidity levels in the state capital earlier in the day and left people scurrying for cover from the heavy shower..

The met office said Shimla recorded 30.2 mm of rainfall in less than an hour.

Official sources, however, said no loss of life and property has been reported from anywhere in Shimla district till now.

Meanwhile, the met office said barring light rains at isolated places in Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts, there was no rain in other parts of state during the last 24 hours.

It said Dharamshala and Guler, both in Kangra district, received 20.4 and 8.8 mm of rains respectively, while Solang Nullah received 9.2 mm and Dhundi recorded 8.3 mm of rains.

Nagrota Surian in Kangra district also received 10 mm of rains, the met office said, adding Kalpa in Kinnuar and Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti also recorded 3.1 and 1.4 mm of rains respectively during the last 24 hours.

The minimum temperature recorded at Shimla was 18 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees more than yesterday, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded night temperatures of 22.1 and 20.2 degree Celsius respectively, it said.

The met office said the minimum temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar dropped by .4 degrees to stand at 12.1, while it dropped to zero degrees at Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti as against 3.3 degrees recorded yesterday.

The met office has predicted moderate to heavy rains at several places in the state during the next 24 hours.
