HC to appoint Judge to probe May 12 violence
Chennai, Aug 1 (UNI) Madras High Court today indicated that it would appoint a District Judge to probe the alleged violence which took place in K V K Kuppam Village in Thiruvattriyur on May 12 allegedly at the instigation of DMK Minister K P P Swamy.
When the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Village Panchayat President K Anjappan came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice K Chandru, Senior Counsel A L Somiyaji, appearing for the petitioner submitted that the report of the police which was informed before the Court was not correct.
All the villagers could not enter into their houses till today.
Nearly 130 villagers have filed individual affidavits to this effect. Unless sufficient police protection was provided, they could not enter into the village, he added.
Following this, the bench indicated that it would appoint a District Judge to probe the matter and file a report. It would also issue a direction to put up a permanent police outpost for the safety of the villagers and posted the hearing to tomorrow.
