Govt to inquire lapses in tsunami rehabilitation: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (UNI) Kerala Revenue Minister K P Rajendran today said the government would conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the lapses in implementing rehabilitation projects and distributing financial assistance to the tsunami victims in the state.

Though the previous government had declared projects to tsunami victims on the first anniversary of the disaster on December 26, 2005, serious lapses had come from the government side in implementing the projects, a release said here.

The government had received a memorandum from the Alappad Grama Panchayat stating that it had not received any assistance from the government even six months after its declaration.

The Revenue Minister said the ongoing projects would be completed in scheduled time and the government had released Rs 53 lakh to the purpose.

As per the project the widows of the victims would get a monthly pension of Rs 500 and a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for the marriage of girls, who had lost their belongings in the disaster.
