GM India to ramp up production capacity by Dec'06
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Following an increased market demand for the Chevrolet brand of vehicles, General Motors India will ramp up its production capacity to 85,000 units from the present 60,000 by December 2006, at its Gujarat plant.
''GM India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units by the year-end,'' company Vice President P Balendran said in statement here today.
Mr Balendran said the company got a good response to new model Chevrolet SRV -- India's first premium sportsback -- launched last month, adding that the products will further propel the 'Chevrolet India Revolution' in the automobile market.
The Chevrolet brand recorded a year-on-year growth of 58 per cent in July 2006.
GM India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation.
Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Aveo at its facility in Halol, Gujarat.
