GM India sales jump 37per cent in July

New Delhi, Aug 1: General Motors India today reported a 37 per cent growth in its July sales at 2,450 units, a majority of which came from the Chevrolet Tavera model at 1,302 units.

During July 2005, General Motors sold 1,866 cars.

The other two models Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Optra contributed 839 units and 309 units respectively, during the month.

''The sales of the Chevrolet Aveo and the Chevrolet Tavera are to our satisfaction and going forward, the market will see a lot of excitement with our Chevrolet Brand,'' GM India Vice President P Balendran said.

He said the company got a good response to the newly-launched Chevrolet SRV adding that, ''The products will further propel the 'Chevrolet India Revolution' in the automobile market. The brand has also recorded a year-on-year growth of 58 per cent.

Following an increased market demand for the Chevrolet brand of vehicles, GM India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units by the year-end.

GM India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation.

Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Aveo at its facility in Halol, Gujarat.
