Global Quran recitation, Azan competition on August 4

Kozhikode, Aug 1 (UNI) More than 200 Islamic scholars from India and abroad will participate in the International Holy Qur'an Hifz, Quir'ath and Azan Competitions to be held here on August 4.

Indian delegates for the competitions, claimed to be the first such event in the country, will be selected from a national-level competition tomorrow, organising committee chairman P K Ahamed and general convener J Abdul Majeed told reporters here today.

Mecca Hurram Sharief Imam Sheikh Abdurehman Susyed and Colombo Darul Quranul Kareem secretary-general Hafis M M Ifrad Faiz will inaugurate the international and national events respectively, they said.

Other delegates confirmed participation were from Australia, Tanzania, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Kuwait, Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia, they added.

The programme was being organised jointly by the Anjuman Tha'Leemul Qur'an and Calicut Islamic Cultural Society.
