Drive against illegal use of red lights on vehicles

Jaipur, Aug 1 (UNI) The state transport department has started a drive against unauthorised use of red-blue lights on vehicles of senior government officials, bureaucrats and politicians.

Several senior bureaucrats were made to get rid of the red and blue lights of their vehicles as the drive began yesterday. Around 30 vehicles were challaned as they were found to be using these lights without proper papers. The drive is continuing today.

The checking department has posted one RTO at five places in the city apart from two flying squads.

Lights from the vehicles of Manjit Singh, local body secretray, Ashok Sampatram, industry secretary, C M Sharma, Income tax commissioner and Chief Excise Commissioner. A pilot of a helicopter was also found having a red light on his vehicle.

The RTO has issued a warning that those who are unauthorised to use the red and blue lights on their vehicles should remove them immediately, otheriwse they will face disciplinary action.

Also if only drivers are using the vehicles, they should cover up the lights, otherwise their licences would be siezed for one week.

A Rs 100 fine would be imposed if caught for the first time, the second time offender would have to pay Rs 300.

The Chief Minister, Chief Justice, Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Lokayukt, Chief Information Commissioner, Cabinet ministers and several others are eligible to use red lights.

District chief judicial magistrate, additional chief judicial magistrate, police officials, excise and roadways officials are allowed to use blue lights on their vehicles.
