CRPF-maoist trade fire in Belpahari

Midnapore, Aug 1(UNI) The CRPF camp at Chhurimara village under Belparai police station turned into a battle ground after night long exchange of fire between the forces and maoist ultras, who attacked a para-military camp for the first time eer.

The ultras, armed heavily, attacked the camp lae after midnight and the forces retaliated resulting in trading of fire till the wee hours today.

Superintendent of Police, west Midnapore, Ajay Nand said, the firing continued throughout the night, but no casualty was reported from either side till now.

Para military forces stationed at Belpahari, Kankrajhore and Jamtalgarh could not move at night fearing reprisals.

Police is combing the entire forest region bordering Jharkhand and adjoining Purulia District to nab the ultras.

Police suspected the attack was to avenge the recent arrest of a local MCC leader Jagannath Sardar from Siorbindha forest.

Police has engaged a jammer system in the Belpahari region making impossible any communication either on land phone or mobile.
