Cholera cases in Delhi mount to 675
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Total number of cholera cases in the capital this season has increased to 675 with 58 cases reported last week.
A total of 37 malaria cases were also reported in the city last week, out of which 20 cases were from other states, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said after chairing a meeting on 'Water and Vector Borne Diseases' today.
Two dengue cases were also reported last week taking the total number of cases to five this month.
Out of the 58 cholera cases reported last week, 12 were from other states while in five cases wrong address were mentioned.
Out of the total 675 cholera cases, 195 cases were reported from unauthorised colonies, 112 from urbanized villages, 116 from Jhuggi Jhopri clusters and slums, 105 from regularised colonies, 11 from re-settlement colonies, 103 from other states, four from areas under the railways, six cases from New Delhi Municipal Council and 23 cases were of wrong addresses.
Dr Shastri informed that last week, 20,383 blood slides were collected, 27,535 houses were sprayed, 4,49,745 houses were visited for checking of domestic breeding out of which 3,143 houses were found positive. During anti-Malaria operations 2,321 legal notices were issued and 959 cases were launched for prosecution.
As many as 11 challans were issued in Shahdara North Municipal Corporation of Delhi Zone, out which seven were government offices, three were schools and one was a religious place. In South Zone two government offices, one hospital and one bank and in Rohini zone one government office and one school were issued challans.
As preventive measures a total of 1,836 water samples were tested by MCD staff out of which 53 were found unfit and under joint water testing with Delhi Jal Board total 1,006 samples were tested out of which 23 were found unfit.
He said this week, 19,38,230 chlorine tablets and 10,892 ORS packets were distributed.
As a health education measure, 55,320 handbills, 1,761 posters and 6,283 stickers were distributed. Under food hygiene raids, a total 125 raids were conducted in which 37,348 kg unwholesome food, 39,730 kg substandard ice was seized. 903 water trollyes were checked, action was taken against 169 water trollyes, eight sugarcane crushers, 320 'rehris' and 958 other items were seized and 435 were prosecuted.
